Math
Math is set up as "stations". Every student visits each of the 3 stations. One station is always direct instruction with me. Here your student receives the core content of the lesson. I am able to adjust the lesson to match the needs of each small group. The second station is always to work on the math practice pages for the lesson. Some of these pages are review of concepts covered in earlier lessons. Some of them are reinforcement of the information covered in the instruction. Finally, every group spends time playing the Everyday Math games covering the content of that day's lesson. This set-up of rotations for math allows me to work with the students in a small group setting and make sure your student is getting what he or she needs to be successful. The Everyday Math games are provided by our math curriculum, and these are a great way to review and reinforce the skills covered in our lessons.
Multiplication and Division are key concepts covered in 4th grade math. It is very important for your student to practice multiplication and division facts as much as possible at home. We take leveled timed tests of these facts every Friday. The more your child practices at home, the more successful he or she will be with these facts!
The Everyday Math games we play during our math rotations are also available to your child at home. The students each have a login and password to access these games. Click on the link below to get to the Everyday Math Online website. This site also has a section for parents to see what we are covering at school so that you know exactly what your child is working on.
